Island Chapel

I come to St Ives usually at least twice a year and yet never seem to walk up to this little church. It’s a little bit of a steep trek but not too bad, certainly well worth it for the views but sadly not wheelchair friendly as it’s steep uneven grass on the way up. The church was closed the day we visited (Friday) so bare that in mind.

It’s perched on top of a hill overlooking the town and the ocean, the chapel offers stunning panoramic views in every direction. The peaceful atmosphere of the chapel itself adds to the charm, and it feels like a quiet retreat from the more bustling areas below. The walk up is definitely worth it, especially if you enjoy scenic views of both the sea and the surrounding landscape.

Lovely walk to the headland and up to the little church. Great views in all directions including beaches and town. Church itself has an interesting history after being demolished then rebuilt by the army. The building is open limited hours depending on weather.

St Ives is home to some of the most beautiful beaches. The walk to St Nicholas Chapel from Porthmeor Beach takes just 5-10 minutes, while Porthminster Beach kicks off a stunning stretch of golden sands that extends all the way to Godrevy Lighthouse.
