Clarance House Gardens
Clarance House Conservation Garden is owned by Thaxted Parish Council for the benefit of the residents of Thaxted. It can be found in Margaret Street, by the Church Hall. The garden is about ½ acre and contains a few formal flowerbeds, but mainly it is looked after for the wildlife. There is a large pond, full of toads, frogs and newts with dragonflies The garden is open every weekend and Bank Holidays in Spring and Summer from 10 am to 5 pm and everyone is very welcome to visit unless otherwise privately booked. It is a community resource to enjoy whether for a few minutes peace in an otherwise busy day, or as a space for a longer visit. Children are very welcome, though be aware of the pond. Dogs are not permitted, except assistance dogs. Working parties are held on the first Sunday in the month throughout the year from 10.30am to 1pm and anyone from beginners to experienced gardeners are most welcome. Every Autumn the garden is open for people to pick the fruit, apples, pears, mullberries, quince and walnuts, at a very reasonable price.
The Clarance House Gardens is suitable for baby groups, ceremonies, corporate events, exhibitions, music practice, music events, parties, sports and fitness, societies and clubs, theatre productions and training and workshops.
